n 1790, the often remodeled Georgian period dwelling at 401 South The Inn at Grays Landing was built. One of the oldest houses in the town of Windsor, it has been occupied by some of the town's most famous families.

John Johnson, attorney-at-law, was the first owner. Other residents include Elisha Rhodes, appointed by President Van Buren as a U.S. Consul to the Port of Galveston, Republic of Texas and his son William Henry, one of the first science fiction writers. The house was also occupied by David Outlaw, a pro-Unionist Congressman before the Civil War.
