Windsor is centrally
located on major highways and just a short drive from the Outer Banks.
Founded in 1768, the town is located on the banks of the Cashie River
and remains today much as it did in its heyday and is one of the most
interesting small historically significant towns in the region. Please

Canoeists
& Birders
Want to explore the largest, least disturbed bottomland hardwood ecosystem
in eastern North Carolina? The Roanoke River Wildlife Reserve is yours
for the asking right here. This area is home to animals such as black
bear, bobcat and mink as well as over 200 species of birds including the
cerulean warbler, bald eagle, mississippi kite and swainsons warbler.
Canoes are available for rent right here in Windsor. Pickup and delivery
service is offered. Guided tours are available certain times of the year.

Livermon
Recreational Park & Mini-Zoo
The Livermon Recreational Park and Mini-Zoo offers a playground
and fun for all ages. Over 30 species of foreign and domestic animals
can be found at the zoo eager for visitors to come and pet them.

Cashie
Wetlands Walk
The Walk has
an 1800 foot handicapped accessible walkway to the Cashie River and features
a fishing pier at its end. The trees and shrubs in the Walk are labeled
for identification. Various wild animals can be seen in their natural
habitat, many of which are endangered species, such as the pileated woodpecker.

River Boardwalk
Stroll along
the Cashie River, fish if you like and enjoy natures treasures. Canoeing

Roanoke/Cashie
River Center
Located
on the Cashie river at the original site of Grays Landing, the original
name for the town of Windsor, the river center building is an interpretive
center of the Roanoke river basin. It contains information on how the
watershed evolved and how we now affect it.

Charles
Kuralt Trail
The Charles
Kuralt Trail has been established to help people enjoy wildlands and to
recognize the broadcast journalist from North Carolina who shared the
delights and wonders of places like these. The trail in the Toanoke River
National Wildlife Refuge located here in Bertie County includes bottomlannd
hardwood forests important to neotropical migratory birds, migratory fish
and nesting and wintering waterfowl. take the foot trail through the river
floodplain during spring and fall migrations.
